I am building another outbuilding to the rear of my home, I do have a garage which is fed by a 6mmsq cable from the CU in the house. the length of cable is approx 18m and is protected by a 65mA RCD in the CU. The new building is set further back and the length of cable from my existing garage to the new building is approx 33m. The purpose of the new build is for my son and his band to practice and record their music, they will have the usual musical instruments and amps. will 6mmsq T&E be ok or will I need to replace the cable rigt to the CU in the house to something heavier and should I use a 30mA RCD in the studio.

but its already protected is it not?

and apart from lights and sockets will the outbuilding need any heating?

No the heating will be oil fired, and I was going to use the RCD so as if there was a trip There would still be lights in the studio.

Thats correct but in the garage if there is a trip in the house the garage goes black, & I would like if I still had lights more so in the studio

perhaps the rcd protection shud be local rather than supplying

A 6mm cable for that extended run from the garage to the studio will be adequate, for 'band practice" etc. A 6mm SWA XL cable will allow you around 5kW.

You mentioned using 6mm T&E? Do you think that's wise?

Thanks! I am open to suggestions I think 5kW would be good perfect.

I am going to run the cable underground in a red electric conduit pipe

I hope you don't mean you're going to run T&E underground, duct or not!
