Mate is looking for a company to install two air con units into his house (Midlands area). Doesn't want a ice bucket blower (fill reservoir with ice and water type), looking for the Real McCoy, built in, commercial style, condenser units, ceiling fan units etc.
Anyone on here used / recommend a company please?

His Mrs and both kids have fairly bad asthma and these high temps of late, pollen etc. is crippling them. He has bought 2 small portable coolers which is helping , but would like to get an idea of a more robust permanent solution.
    Thanks.

  3. I doubt you'll find the expertise you're looking for on here, Dave - it's such a specialist area.

I'm also not sure if air-con units will help with pollen - unless the 'blowers' inside the house also has micro-filters on them.

Daiken used to be one of the most popular makes for these units, but I think others have joined the scene especially as energy-efficient ways of also heating your house - they are used at heat-pumps as well as being reversible to act as coolers.

(I seem to recall that well-known Japanese manufacturers make these? Hitachi or Kawa or summat?)

The previous owners of our house built a conservatory-type extension to take in the voos, and had a Daiken unit built in to it (and fitted NO opening windows...). It has vents in the floor, the ugly main unit on an outside wall opposite, and a remote control to set the temp and mode - like heat, cool, dehumidify etc. Bludy hate it - never ever use it - you can hear the fans running, you can feel the draught, it's just hellsih - when all I want to do is crack open a window...

A properly installed system ain't gong to be cheap, I don't think - surely at least £5k? (plucked straight out of the air - I really don't know).

I guess if they are seriously considering this, they should look at taking it a stage further and going for a full heat-pump system that'll provide them with cheap heating and even domestic hot water. They might start to recoup some of the outlay in reduced energy bills?

    Cheer's DA.

They have loads of respiratory problems triggered by dust, heat, pollen etc. I'm no Doc.

I've had a wee look into it on line and puzzled some guys on sites about installing, apparently, back in the day, it used to be a limited number of companies that were involved in the install line. U S (to quote a phrase ;)) Mitsubishi, Daikin, etc. but as with everything else when it goes bang, no beggar wants to know, unless its a full refit / upgrade your looking for, buying spares to sort yourself isn't an option as the excuses run from" we have to import and your not qualified enough to install correctly". Apparently there are some guys that have ventured off on their own, and was just checking on here if anyone could advise.
It would be the all singing and dancing type (hotel or commercial style ceiling flush mount cassette) of install. The wall mounted ones is ugly and yeah noisy.
They are after an install in the lounge (open plan into dinning room and kitchen) and in the master bedroom (kids not as bad at night).

Is solar power is it an option for partial or full power?
