Bathroom downlight issue.

Discussion in 'Electricians' Talk' started by major-eyeswater, Apr 30, 2017.

  1. Hi all.
Turned the bathroom downlights on last night and it tripped the MCB for upstairs lights.
Turned off lights and reset MCB but it trips again when bathroom lights switched on.
Dropped the bulbs and a connector block on the 12v side has melted and is shorting out - would this cause the MCB to trip.and not reset?
    Thanks.

Unlikely. Either a faulty transformer, or damage to the 230v wiring somewhere. Electronic transformers should simply shut down on short circuit. If it was a an old wire wound type, there is usually a fuse on the output which would blow.

  3. Cheers. Would this cause to trip the MCB every time the light switch is turned on?
Would replacing the transformer cure this?
    Thanks.

Disconnect the feed to the transformer and see if it trips.
