Bathroom render

Hello. I am about to render my bathroom walls, brick double skin cavity, nothing major, but i was wondering how to prepare the bricks? can anyone help me and tell me how to do this please? they are all cleaned up, but they feel quite smooth and i am worried the render might not adhere properly.
