Any advice appreciated! I have some leftover kitchen worktop that I am going to cut to size and attach to the wall as a small breakfast bar. It will be about 400mm depth and 1.5m in length. I don't want support legs under the worktop so I was thinking of using 2 of these brackets. http://www.screwfix.com/p/heavy-duty-bracket-black-300-x-300mm-2-pack/78941 Screwed into the underside of you worktop and bolted into the wall. - would 2 brackets be enough to support the worktop? What should I use to fix the brackets to the wall? Masonry wall, 6mm diameter holes pre-drilled in the brackets. Cheers
It's more than enough, as long as you don't lean on it. I would say no way, well at least I wouldn't be happy using this method. WOI
The brackets hold 200kg each - would they really not be enough even with anchor bolts on the wall? Is there a better idea?
Its the cantilever effect of leaning on the end that is the problem I wouldnt trust it long term. 2 legs would make a big difference. But wait for more opinions
Its not the strength of the brackets that matter, its how you fix them to the wall; the cantilever effect of someone leaning on the edge will tend to pull out the fixings; perhaps rawl bolts will do it, but I'd prefer to have some additional support, maybe at the ends?
I am really hoping to avoid using legs under the worktop. Would a batton bolted to the wall and screwed to the worktop, between the brackets do the job? ...any ideas welcome folks
C Decorative but strong chain support from ceiling ? Batten wont stop the cantilever but would help, especially if well secured to top and wall
This bracket would offer more support putting the 500mm on the wall, it would take somebody literally sitting on it to pull it out the wall if you fix it using thunderbolts. http://www.screwfix.com/p/heavy-duty-brackets-black-500-x-300mm-2-pack/98807 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/190575924895?lpid=122&chn=ps&adgroupid=41285909471&rlsatarget=pla-470338991232&adtype=pla&poi=&googleloc=9046019&device=t&campaignid=738225731&crdt=0&ul_ref=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F710-134428-41853-0%2F2%3Fmtid%3D1673%26kwid%3D1%26crlp%3D172725695219_563391%26itemid%3D190575924895%26targetid%3D470338991232%26device%3Dt%26mpre%3Dhttp%253a%252f%252fwww.ebay.co.uk%252fitm%252flike%252f190575924895%253flpid%253d122%2526chn%253Dps%26adtype%3Dpla%26googleloc%3D9046019%26poi%3D%26campaignid%3D738225731%26adgroupid%3D41285909471%26rlsatarget%3Dpla-470338991232%26gclid%3DCPu_i7m2s9ICFQaVGwodmvsIbQ%26srcrot%3D710-134428-41853-0%26rvr_id%3D1175148873238
You could try these 400mm and erm cheaper .... http://www.ironmongeryonline.com/450mm-x-400mm-stay-bracket-grey Put in 4
As it's only 400 deep and 1500 long, a couple of decent brackets, 2x1 batten along the back edge, then it should be fine. Plug and screw batten and put a spot of Stixall or similar on it so it is really solid to the wall. Use 80mm screws for brackets and plugs. At the end of the day, it's basically a big shelf so as long as you don't sit on it, then it ain't going nowhere!
There should only be elbow weight on it - no sprogs and it's not for sitting on! Thanks chaps, I'll give the thunder bolts a try.
