Can some one please tell me the difference between cat 2 and LG7 light fittings. And whats the pro's and con's if there are any.............
A cat2 light fitting usually refers to the type (or category) of louvre, generally crossblade reflective louvre, used to try and prevent reflections onto the screen of display equipment. This isn't necessarily as much of a problem these days with bright computer screens and I am not sure if CIBSE even refers to CAT2 louvres anymore. LG7 is a lighting guide from CIBSE and is number 7 in a catalogue of lighting guides (hence LG7!!). You do not necessarily need to use CAT2 louvres to comply with LG7, but if you are carrying out lighting designs to offices then it is advisable to read LG3 and LG7 from CIBSE.
The category's 1,2 and 3 used to be the way we graded light fittings in offices, but since the amendments and changes to lg3 and lg7 have be written it has been redesigned so that a simple category would not always comply and perhaps more thought should be put into the lighting design rather than just bunging a load of "cat 2" fittings to cover yourself..
