    Hello
i am worried about the cracks on our dining room ceiling. I have attached photos for you to see. The ceiling has a few cracks that go from the chimney side of the room across to the opposite wall.

    I think you're in a Victorian house?

This will usually be constructed from lath and plaster. Laths are small thin wooden lengths of batten that are nailed into the ceiling joist. Lime plaster would have been mixed with horse hair to act as a binding ingredient and rendered over the laths.

Were the cracks there previously or have they just appeared?

I reckon that the lining paper is holding up most of your ceiling....

  4. Yeah if its an old victorian property as it looks id agree that the lath and plasters finally given up after 100 years
