Hi guys, I'm planning on putting some decking down to cover a 2mtr concrete "patio" plus extend a further 2mtrs on to the garden.

The problem is the concrete area, it is 2mtrs wide with a fall of 50mm. The gap under the patio doors is only 130mm.

I would have preferred to use 6x2 joists (where they point away from the house) but the gap under the patio doors only allows for 4x2.

    I see my options as:
Use 6x2 channel out some of the concrete
Use 6x2 and rip joist over concrete area
Use 4x2 joist and support it

Can anyone please advise as to what to do?

    Thanks in advance.

    4x2 at 400mm centres will span 2M

Isn't 4 metres though, 2 metres of the existing patio + 2 metres extra into the garden.

4x2 should still be OK if under supported every metre.

Use 4x2 on the concrete, then finish with 4x2 at 90ยบ. Attach 6x2 for garden to this, and whatever support the garden joists need.

4x2 is ok if supported every 2 metres and I was presuming that the 2M over the patio would be supported by the patio.
    2M + 2M = 4M so 4"x2" is ok. :):)
