    What about needle nose?

As far as I am aware, needle and snipe are for more precision work. Long nose are for sparkies trying to grab that ailing cable!

    Long nose for eating ants.
Snipe for shooting things from a hidden position.

I think that snipe nose is an American term for the same thing.

About 50%, long nosed tend to be just that long, snipe are a similar shape but much shorter and smaller for delicate work, say like a watchmaker.

Long nose pilers are sometimes called snipe nose or needle nose depends where you come from.

That a mistake on behalf of those calling them by the wrong names, they are all a different type of plier.

Exactly, could add specialist pilers like Rosary pilers to the mix to confuse peeps abit more.
Rosary are basically needle nose combined with side cutters,

Google an image of the Snipe bird; look at the beak on said bird and you will get the General shape of snipe nosed pliers! Simples!
