Been in my shed here, it's crawling with false black widow spiders, which is only venomous spider in the UK, I make sure I'm covered & wear gloves, don't wish to tempt fate. Tonight read local paper & found this story, so go careful in garages, sheds, etc. http://www.somersetlive.co.uk/false...of-frome-man/story-29763215-detail/story.html
Always good to be over cautious I suppose but this is more a case of the guy being unlucky and having an allergic reaction, could have happened from a bee sting. They're also not the only venomous spider in the UK, nearly all known spider species are venomous including those in the UK, just varying levels of potency, the false black widow is thought to be one of the higher potency venoms out of our native spiders but this reaction is certainly not a common one.
Trouble is you don't know if you will get a allergic reaction until bitten. There has been a few cases of people being bitten in the UK in recent years. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-left-grandfather-fighting-life-hospital.html http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-24470023
True. I wonder what the effects of being bitten, would be for children, especially younger ones, could be worst.
