Hi. I am just cutting the big hole out for the sink unit. It came with a roll of self adhesive foam padding to go between the edge of the sink unit and the work surface. Do I need to use this and clear silicone ? I would have thought the foam would have soaked up moisture even when compressed by the fixing clips.
Common sense says just use silicone and discard the foam. Am I right?

  2. The foam tape is meant to be enough. It becomes compressed and is meant to be watertight.

However, I've always been happier also running a bead of sili (I think I might use StixAll these days...) so's it squeezes out along the edge, and then trimming it orf as it starts to set.

With chust the tape in there, there seems to be a teeny wee gap along the edge that could encourage nasties and would allow water to get under the lip with only the tape to stop it. I like to stop the water before it gets in there...

I like to have the edge completely sealed orf - so sealant as well.
