Hi. I am just cutting the big hole out for the sink unit. It came with a roll of self adhesive foam padding to go between the edge of the sink unit and the work surface. Do I need to use this and clear silicone ? I would have thought the foam would have soaked up moisture even when compressed by the fixing clips. Common sense says just use silicone and discard the foam. Am I right?
The foam tape is meant to be enough. It becomes compressed and is meant to be watertight. However, I've always been happier also running a bead of sili (I think I might use StixAll these days... ) so's it squeezes out along the edge, and then trimming it orf as it starts to set. With chust the tape in there, there seems to be a teeny wee gap along the edge that could encourage nasties and would allow water to get under the lip with only the tape to stop it. I like to stop the water before it gets in there... I like to have the edge completely sealed orf - so sealant as well.
