I am replacing an internal vaulted ceiling. Removing existing cladding and insulation. Then looking to install kingspan insulation between rafters (120 mm) and then insulated plasterboard to rafters (50mm - 37.5 insulation 12.5 plaster board). The rafters are 600mm apart. Does the plaster boards just need to be screwed at 300mm intervals on the rafters or should additional pieces of wood (noggins is I believe the term) be placed between the rafters to allow the boards to have additional screws. I have asked a couple of builders and have had different answers. Before taking on the builder I want to make sure they are adopting the correct approach.
Should be fine just on the rafters, if you add noggins you are aiding any form of cold bridging, all be it you're covering the rafters.
