Has anyone done one of these before. I can get hold of very cheap glass from a window glazing company, would it be appropriate glass. Obviously it won't be doubled glazed and yes I can get it toughened ok...
Glass Balustrades ? Near Telford, then poke your nose in here. http://www.tradestairs.com/acatalog/Glass_Balustrade.html
Or this? http://www.arup.com/Projects/Glass_stair.aspx "The staircase incorporates some of the most complicated toughened and laminated glass panels in the world."
I worked in the head office for a major retailer in London and they had a glass staircase. It was an absolute nightmare people used to have accidents on it several times a week - including myself when someone spilt a drink on the step and I went skating.
They were! Thats my size 10 foot on the stairs. Absolutely bonkers design the going was twice the size of the rise and there were no risers as such just open. So when you walked up every few steps you had to adjust your stride. Women used to find them particularly tricky with their heels and skirts. One of those where the design overrided the practicality
No just this type of design, oak and glass... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/2212...ICEP3.0.0-L&ff14=122&viphx=1&ops=true&ff13=80 I can get the glass cheap but not sure if its suitable...
Jay as Chippie says - no pressure then. Build out the timber and template the glass with corex or better still thin plywood.
Often, the stairs will comply with a timber balustrade and the client will pay the contractor to remove it and make good afterwards.
? Building Control can only do so much. How can one control what a client ultimately agrees with their contractor? Another popular one is removing door closers on all doors after final inspection for loft extension.
