Halogen transformers

Discussion in 'Electricians' Talk' started by major-eyeswater, Jun 29, 2016.

  1. Picked up a transformer to replace the one in my kitchen than failed.
The old one was 35-105va, and had one single output to the chain of lights.

The new trans is the same rating, but has 3 sets of outputs.
Can I just use one of the outputs to supply my chain of lights as per the old trans?
    Cheers.

think so (i tend not to dasiy chain low voltage lights) insted prefare to put each one on its own transformer (this way makes it easier for fault finding) also tend to use 2 pin plug and socket 5amp conector between transformer and the mains supply that way isolation is also easy (for replacing transformer or bulbs etc)

I would imagine the terminals are soldered together inside the transformer so one set will more than likely give the full output, however 105VA is 8 amps or so, can the terminals handle that, maybe take 3 short leads from it and join them together.
