Help with ceiling light on loop

Discussion in 'Electricians' Talk' started by Stressedmummyof3boys, Jan 23, 2017.

  1. Hi, I've got 2 ceiling lights in my hallway, I've taken both down & replaced with pendant lights. My problem is with one of the pendants being very dull. The first light had only one cable with a black, red & earth cable, easy to wire up & works great! Next light has two cables, each has a red, black & earth cable. When I removed the previous light both black cables were connected together and both refs connected together. My problem is I've wired it up as per a 2 cable loop but it is seriously dull, more like 10w than 60w, where have I gone wrong?? It's driving me mad!!

    Ok, a few questions.

1 Did both lights originally operate off the same switch?

    2. If yes, Do they both still switch on/off together?

    3. Is there definitely only 2 cables present at 2nd light?

4 can you post pics of each pendant wiring?

  3. Hi
1, both lights work from the same switch, there is a switch at either end of the hallway
2, yes they both switch on/off it's only one that is extremely dim
3, there were only 2 cables coming through ceiling and attached to previous light fitting
4, I'll post some pics of the working pendant shortly
