Today we purchased a new Hotpoint electric oven. When we got it home and un-boxed it, we quickly discovered the idiots at Hotpoint have fitted a electric cable which is too short to do anything with.

The oven is 60cm in depth and the power cable is only just longer than this, which means unless the electric socket is directly behind the oven, which I'm sure it isn't supposed to be for safety reasons, its actually impossible to connect it.

Looking for advice on what to do.

What is the model and power rating of this oven?
Did the electric cable come with a plug attached?

    HOTPOINT Class 2 SA2 544 C IX

    Energy consumption: 0.89 kWh

    Came with plug attached.

kWh is not a power rating.
    KW is.

However, if it comes with a plug then it will be less than 13A (approx 3KW).

Your best option would be to extend the cable.
    obtain a junction like this

And a length of at least 1.5mm csa heat resistant flex cable.

    I think this is it...

    Max. absorbed power (kW): 2350

Is there a decimal point missing? 2.35MW is a lot of power!

    You'll need a whole Hinkley B power station to power a 2350 kW oven!!:D
    Think it's really 2350W.

If so, my advice remains as above.
