    Hi

If an large (guess about 60' high) Oak tree is being felled, is the timber of value?

    Thanks, Steve

Yes it is worth some money, but you will have to take into account the costs involved in getting it out of it currect location to a timber yard in one big lump, that or contact a timber yard asking them to come as give you a price to take it away.

it's worth as much as someone is prepared to pay for it

find yourself a local old fashioned timber merchants, or a joinery company, even a saw mill - they are your likely customers - but you'll need permission to do so - and if you want it felled just to make some money then you need planting yourself

you also need to check with the person felling the tree as the wood value may be factored into the price??

Oak trees can only be felled and the wood must be used for ship building with no exceptions, oh sorry that was during the Napolionic wars.
