    Hi All,

I'm going to be laying my own paving and I want to know whether I should lay the slabs on a full mortar bed or use the 5 spot method?

The paving is for general garden use, ie; Dining, BBQ, getting pi**ed up, not supporting heavy stuff like parking a car etc...

I've done my research online and there appears to be regular disagreements over which method should be used.

Looking forward to hearing your advice...

    Cheers.

If you are jointing the slabs use the full bed method, this then pushes mortar up into the joints as you lay the slabs, if butt jointed then 5 spot method.

  3. As phil says get yourself a rubber mallet too white one as it wont leave marks

I would always full bed, reduces the risk of water underneath and freezing, blowing the slabs as the ice expands.

    Mr. HandyAndy - Really
