Hi. I just wanted to know if there was a minimum gap that you had to have around a hob on a bench top. My bench seems a custom job and us only 550mm deep to the wall. Is really like a hob on this bench but worried about space

  2. 550mm a bit tight. But could be ok.

Two potential issues (as you probably know...); one is the small amount of w'top left after the hole is cut out, and t'other is how close to the back wall the hob - and heat - will go.

Best thing is to short-list some hobs and get hold of the installation instructions for each (very likely to be on-line on the manufacturer's website.

What kind (material) of worktop are you talking aboot? As long as it's actually thick enough to take the hob's depth, you could bring it forward towards the front edge more than you'd do on a 600-deep 'top, and screw a metal reinforcing strip underneath the thin front w'top if needed, so it won't risk breaking.

But - a bit of research first.
