Hi there, I'm in the process of laying down decking in the garden. I have completed the sub floor which covers an area of 12ft x 20ft but the decking has been out in the rain for a couple of days. The question is do I still need to leave a 3-4 mm expansion gap now the deck boards are wet. Thanks in advance.
A quick answer is to measure the boards width. see how it differs from the size you bought. ie if you bought 145mm and the board is 150mm(expanded when wet) then no gap. or read this http://community.screwfix.com/threads/decking-expansion-gaps.18481/ and remember, an ice rink is flat for a reason. I sometimes use a decking screw as a spacer. If you're worried, check some from the bottom of the pile and compare to the really soaked ones. Doubt there'll be much difference so just get on with it
