Hi all I want to make a smoking shelter same principe as a lean to then clad with plastic corrugated sheet material.

I wish to fix to the side of the building what timber will I need I was thinking? 4x2

There is dwarf wall then where I wish to bolt 4x4 posts too uprights.

Then a another wall beyond where I can fix another wall plate for the joist to sit on.

The simplest approach really. I'm guessing I will need a photo.

The question I need to know is what size wall plate timber do I need?

    What size joists?

    What size posts?

I don't want to dig into the ground as I know there is services etc there. Thanks in advance

What the width, then you can work out joist size, most likely 4x2, wall plate 4x2 or 5x2.

Make sure dwarf wall is up to supporting posts, as I seen a similar structure to what your building come crashing down, when someone lent against one post & the wall toppled over.

Don't panic, if you know in advance the wall might be a problem you can easily design around it.

I'm pretty confident guys the wall will be strong enough its kind of the design aspect I'm not sure about.

I was thinking of putting a wall plate attached to the building say 5x2 then say 8ft posts of the dwarf wall then 4x2 bolted to them.

Then joist notched out maybe 10-20mm to create as light fall.

The spacings of the joist I'm not sure about? I'm guessing that depends on the plastic corrugated sheeting I'm using.

Is there any kind of basic design I can follow. Any help would be great.

    Thanks in advance.

Why not use twinwall, it looks better and all the systems to use it are out there?

    Lol that was brilliant!

Looks pretty good but, because I haven't got a design or plan yet. I was thinking the corrugated would be easier to adjust.

I've never done a shelter before, second fix is more my cuppa tea.

Im guessing I would start putting a wall plate on building.

Then fix posts then a wall plate on that.

Now then the spaces for joists I am unsure of. Do I set my last joist right tight to the end of the wall plates. To then attach a fascia etc. hmm!

Just want to make it as simple as possible.

Also was thinking of making my two faceplates level. But notching out the joists to give it a fall away from building

You'll want more of a fall than that.

    Mr. HandyAndy - Really

  11. Oh I think he'll get his 'fall' all right...

any suggestions with how much fall then
Andy. The post will be 2metres away.

    Roughly 2x3metres.

Also I don't smoke I ****** hate the things. So I agree what's wrong with using an umbrella.

    Thanks for replies
