Hi all, I'm a DIY-er so no specialist knowledge but am in the process of replacing a lockshield valve after the nut sheared off and having got the new valve onto the pipework, the 1/2" thread which connects with the pipe of the towel rail appears to be longer than the one I have replaced. Can I get a valve with a shorter thread or need I cut it? The pipework comes horizontally out of the wall with the pipe from the towel heater coming down vertically to join the thread and nut on the top of the valve. However the thread and nut on the replacement valve appears to be a good bit longer than the old one. Any advice appreciated.
To my knowledge the bit that goes into the rad/towel rail ( tail) is 1/2 inch BSP and the threaded bit is a standard lenght although the overall lenght may vary, just make sure before you saw the fitting that the treaded part will screw into the rad/towel rail at least 3/4 of an inch to make the seal,
Like Tom says there much of a standard size, have you screwed it fully home and what tool did you use? Cant say as though Ive ever had this problem before
