We are considering putting in an ensuite that would be 90cm wide. I have read that the minimum clearance in front of a loo if around 50cm but was wondering if you can do with less? If we fitted a short projection toilet with recessed cistern (i.e. http://soak.com/short-projection-back-to-wall-toilet-inc-soft-close-seat_p31331702.htm) at a depth of around 50cm, would 40cm clearance feel overly cramped?
Go to any bathroom you have, and take a board or even a chair with you. Place the board/chair at 40cm in front of the pan, then sit down - how does it feel? Try putting up a couple of side panels too. You should be able to get away with 40cm but it will feel cramped so it will be down to how you feel.
Hi Building regulations M page 8/9 This give the 'approved' dimensions You can download the regs free online! Regards Peter
Of course when standing you need to allow extra if you are well endowed too. Seriously though my cousin had a caravan WC that was so tight that while OK sitting it was a contortion act to use the paper at the end!
