I'm not a builder but need some advice! I live in an average semi. My neighbours want to install a lift because one of them has problems going up the stairs. It will run alongside the wall of my child's room.

A friend tells me our electricity could dip whenever it's used.

Plus its installation could lead to problems structurally with my house. Nobody has been round to see my house to check. I just found out about the project from the application for planning permission.

Am also worried about the noise of a lift going up and down at all hours - will it wake my kid up etc.

Not to mention the noise and disruption of the installation process.

    Should I be worried?!

As above re: party wall act, but I wouldn't worry to much, lifts tend to be installed by total professionals and are covered by building control.

Is the lift internal within your neighbour home,or external outside adjoining your property.
Most domestic lifts are single phase 240v.

Thanks for the info. It is internal within my neighbours home. Running alongside one of our walls.
