Hi, Just had a new carpet fitted. Not happy with the install. Didn't have a chance to check it as the fitters didn't even bother to tidy up, i had to spend an hour hoovering up all the cuttings and fluff Any thoughts? It's a loop pile carpet. http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx292/manicbuzz1/20150724_174652.jpg http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx292/manicbuzz1/20150724_174658.jpg http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx292/manicbuzz1/20150724_174646.jpg http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx292/manicbuzz1/20150724_174705.jpg http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx292/manicbuzz1/20150724_174712.jpg
I wouldn't be happy with that fitting, regardles the cost of the carpet. Were the fitters from the firm where you bought the carpet, if so then make a complaint & get the manager out to see it.
Darren, as KIAB says. It's unacceptable. I wonder if that type of carpet is actually suitable for a staircase in any event - it seems to fray too much at the sides, so perhaps needs gripper all along the edges? (But I don't know.) Yes, you call the manager out. He should agree it's no good without any argument. Any issues, and you send them a letter explaining the issues and tell them under the SoG Act you insist they replace it or refund you in full. If they refuse, you take it to the next step (which is simple, but let's leave that for now.) Go to the Citizen's Advice website and download a template letter to use. Don't panic - you are covered.
Stairs on require a pair of grippers at the bottom corner of the treads to hold the carpet not the edges. They have made sure that the pattern has been cut perpendicular. The reason why there are gaps is when that when the carpet is cut, loose strands from the pile become loose so the fitter may have pulled them out. Also depends on the quality of carpet used.
