Hi My property is being replastered. Once this is done, I am planning to do the mist coats for the entire property. I have never painted before and this is my first attempt at painting. The property is a fairly large 3 bed house. Would a paint sprayer be a worthwhile investment for doing this job? Are they easy to use and would they make the job easier to do. If so, is their a particular paint sprayer you would recommend? My primary concern is a good quality finish. Cheers IM
Hire a HVLP sprayer, as a decent Apollo Spraymaster 1200 HVLP Sprayer is around £200, lovely sprayer & quick. HVLP means High Volume Low Pressure, the paint is on the wall & not bouncing back, will get a superb finish.
Darn good sprayer, sprayed all ceilings, walls here with mine. Earlex 5000 hvlp spraystation is another good sprayer, sometimes see them on Ebay at a reasonable price.
If you got a 3 bed house to paint, would be cheaper to buy, & then Ebay it after you have finish, should make most of money back, rather than hire one weekly. http://www.brandontoolhire.co.uk/en/decorating-tool-hire/147-hvlp-compact-spray.html https://www.airsupplies.co.uk/apoll...=7184800058ae33331a349a7a968727f9&fo_s=gplauk Manual: https://www.sprayguns.co.uk/pdf/apollo-hvlp-range-handbook-wm.pdf
Cheers for the link Kiab. Would I be able to use the spray for every coat I apply? I am painting into newly plastered walls. I have given the walls 4 weeks to dry out. My plan is to do a mist coat and then 2 coats of the paint I will be using. So 3 coats in total.
Yes,you can spray mist coat, then top coats, emulsion does need to be thinned down to be sprayed, but the finish is brilliant on the ceilings here, nice not having brush marks. Astramax is our painter,he more experience than me.
I have an Earlex HVLP very good. What I found is that I had to get an empty 10l paint can and make up the mix that way. It is too much faff to make individual batches and It has to be filtered quite well. Once going the paint literally flies on the wall. The nozzel has several spray settings so you can go from spot, vertical, horizontal. With a bit of practice you don't even need to mask off window frames, skirtings etc. Just hold a piece of card up against the window frame and spray. One benefit - you use a lot less paint
And no bounce back, all the paint ends up on the wall. I use plastic side from broken A4 folder as a spray guard, it's washable, & last indefinitely.
Well that's put it this way. I was able to spray my kit car to a reasonable finish and it was the first time I'd used a sprayer.
I've bought one of these for the house project I'm working on https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/wagner-w-690-flexio-paint-sprayer-230v/ Been using it so far with Teknos paint on window frames. Surprised how nice and easy it is to use once you learn to use a narrow spray and not too much paint feed. Also surprised how thick the paint can be - I did thin very slightly 5%, but Teknos is mainly designed for spraying anyway. I hate brush painting and can see me using this for a lot of the painting that is going to be needed.
no, most come with a built in air supply/compressor. For cleaning you run water through and give the nozzle etc a good wipe off with a rag or give it a good brush
Very little overspray & a high transfer efficiency of paint with hvlp sprayer, something you do not get with a traditional spraygun.
