Hi, I need to paint my freshly plastered bathroom.

Do I need to use bathroom paint for the mist coat or will a generic matt emulsion work ok?

Matt emulsion, as to consistency, depends on quailty of the paint, I usually go 70/30.

But, how long has plaster been on wall.

About a fortnight at the moment - they did the plastering before the tiling and fitting.

But I just need ordinary emulsion, I don't need to do the mist with thinned down bathroom paint?

You need ordinary matt emulsion for a mist coat. Dont use bathroom paint as a mist coat!!

Ordinary matt emulsion thinned down for a mist coat.

If the plaster was a skim coat, then it should be dry, if the room was fully plastered then it will take a few more weeks to fully dry before you you can paint it with mist coat.
A bit of light heat will help to speed thing up a bit.

Ordinary Matt emulsion, 50 paint/50 water.

Then you can use bathroom paint once the first coat is dry
