Looking to purchase a lightweight portable drill, but with so many on the market not sure which would be the best can you help ? Would like it powerfull, light weight and small enough for me to control. Drill would need to be able to go into brick work. Thanks Sharon.
Yeah, of course. get along to a proper tool dealer and let them show you the stuff to try out for yourself. Its no good being persuaded to buy some monster cordless that y0u simply can't work with. So get a separate sds drill for the bricks, and a neat lightweigyt cordless for screwing and such.
Screwfix have a couple on offer at the moment for about 99 quid, Bosch & Hitachi. Both maybe too heavy for you, but that's the sort of combi drill that you are going to need.
A cordless that is good in masonry is going to be heavy and expensive, your best bet is a cheap SDS for the massonry which will be heavy but you wont use that often and then a cheap, light cordless. As I'm typing this I look up and realise I'm saying exactly the same as dwlondon
Yeah, I agree with Chippie, but a 240v SDS can be heavy to handle. It depends upon what you intend to use the drill for. If you only need to put a few wallplugs in brickwork, then a cordless combi drill will be fine, however, if you need to drill holes in concrete, then you need a SDS machine.
The only combi cordless drill I have used that is any good in anything other than soft brick is an 18V Li Makita and it weighs a lot and costs, it's lighter than my dirt cheap SDS but I'm looking to buy the 10.8 Makita drill driver kit for day to day use. Bosch do some good, light SDS but they are expensive. It is all a compromise and only the OP can decide what their prioroties are.
Thank's for all replies. I have taken onboard all information. On my way to look at a Bosch SDS to see if its light enough for me to hold. Sharon
I have purchased a Bosch 14-4 cordless, 2 batteries, with carry case. Just short of £60, was unable to check weight but i'm sure it will be fine When i need those bigger jobs doing i will get the boys in. Thanks again Sharon
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7113457.htm Funnily enough I did have an earlier model of this, but the batteries just ran out constantly. The charger took 5-7 hours to charge a 1.5Ah battery. The specs don't mention how long for the battery to charge, but they are Ni-cd batteries.
Argos. Yes its green. Drill has a 2 year guarantee so more than happy, thanks to all replies Thanks Sharon
Drill will be fine for your requirements Sharon. I would have got the Fatmax one but the Bosch will be perfectly fine. Good luck
