    Hi Bruce,

Ok, here are a few thoughts...

In my opinion the customer likes some "human" contact / meet & greet is very important prior to a tradesperson doing the job. (If your credentials are good, price is good AND they like your face! You will get the job

The process of posting a job & waiting for a response does work well - as only available trades will respond as & when they're available. The customer has the freedom to choose (not the vehicle they're using (aka "aardvark")

How will the distribution of the job take place? (Maybe 4 available trades capable of doing the job whom are all available)

What about fulfilling the job of all trades are busy? (Maybe on bigger / longer jobs)

As a roofer, a system of pricing on my behalf (which can be amended upon my arrival) would be a waste of time - you simply cannot quote prior to examining the job.

What if the adjustment required is not acceptable to the customer? Who does the work then? How quickly does the tradesperson get given another job to replace the job they have allocated for that day?

Basically, the workflow is different, I don't think it will work (well for me)
I am also capable of contacting customers myself to update availability / changes to start dates (one reason is my work is weather dependent - which can seriously affect my diary)

(I think I have answered both of your "big question marks").. & these are things that I can think of off the top of my head.

    CONCLUSION.... ****.

Pricing is not clear (account charged without clearly stating - or a receipt for the payment!)

No jobs - there are so few jobs that I increaed working distance to some 50+ to show results of 2-3 jobs (one of which was on IOW - no good really!)

Website does NOT work well on mobile, it also looks cheap / 1980/1990's - outdated design.

This website probably misses large % of customers going to findatrade.co.uk (this site is .com)

Needs a LOT of investment & time spent on it to even consider competing with RP in any way.

Shame really.. but I definitely won't be using this site anymore (& requesting all my details be removed.. so that no further charges are taken without clearly stating what is what)

They are all the same parasitic limpets living off the trades persons back. I joined rated people to my dismay I did not have to prove anything to them they carried out no checks whatsoever I could have advertised myself as any trade I wanted to, all they have done is cheapened all work and scooped massive rewards and left good honest trades people scratching for crusts whilst they live the good life .............. Robbing Bassers . And as far as our finda trade goes he is worse coming on here making out he is our newfound buddy ......... Yet another leech sticking there money sucking fangs into our already lean wallets.

    Greetings,
Ourselves being somewhat over experienced boiler and building services engineers, we dropped into Rated People by unfortunate Home Office disassociation (one of us was born in Australia (to both British parents) and our new UK self employed 'by contractor' rules, insist on either a UK passport or birth certificate (after us living/tax paying/voting and working here for 40 years), so we needed some fresh non contractual work whilst this is sorted).
We were expecting 'Rated' to involve working for discerning customers, trying to find a little guidance in a world of uncertainty, but our findings were rather more concerning:

    1) A lot of leads were total dead ends, with no response whatsoever from 'customers' to email, phone messages and texts.

    2) Rated Peoples text leads seem to run behind computer leads, and carry no information about the number of leads already sold; so it's a bit of a rat race on the mobiles.

    3) Folk needing new boilers, are encouraged to rate their budget at £3-4k, despite the most needing well under £2k to finance these works; this making a lead cost about £35 each.

A lot of these 'Rated' leads are then sucked up by the same 'big seven' companies that dominate 'check a trade' and other online facility (none being within 80 miles of us (some at 200 miles), but highly rated as 'local traders')...these guys have swish sales styles, and credit facilities, along with very poorly paid workmen and high staff turnover (very often owed months of pay). I have been in parts centers a few times, where their workmen have suddenly found their firms accounts closed, and been forced to relocate elsewhere for their component acquisitions.
Simple financial online inquiry, finds some of these firms as having very late tax returns, and indications 'of poor liquidity' (what a surprise).
We've had quite a few correctional works passed to us, following their very low quality and poorly executed works.
Erm, aren't these ' Rated / check' online institutions supposed to keep the spur marks off a customers skirting boards?

    4) Where as customer expectation has certainly changed over the years, it used to be that a deal was a deal. Now we find our selves threatened by customers themselves, in trying to get an enhanced negotiation, by wanting our quality, at someone else's prices; 'thanks for doing such a good job, but another chap only wanted £55 to do a service and landlord certificate, not £65 like you. I only chose you because your feedback was so good'....nothing like a veiled threat in a last minute renegotiation <g>.

So....in conclusion, we are paying too much for the leads, especially as they only have a one third expectation. These leads are often a little 'stale' and the 'got it done already by a local fitter' excuse is prevalent.
We have no problem with reasonable competition, although folk on the 'sign here and now' tactics are a little different from more reasonable quotational selection, especially when applying strange/ excessive closure tactics.
I still find Rated useful, but only for low priced leads, and only when we are already working in the immediate area (you can't throw both diesel and lead prices at a cheap job). I think the last lot of lead/result data I looked at, £140 in leads was showing £450 in profit over 7 jobs, I don't think many will be retiring on such result. Not really worth the wear and tear on the vehicle/office facility.

    Regards,

    Old school Boilermen

    Hello!

I've started the petition "Rated People: Rated People not for the tradesman" and need your help to get it off the ground.

Will you take 30 seconds to sign it right now? Here's the link:

    https://www.change.org/p/rated-people-treat-tradesman-fairly-2

    Here's why it's important:

If you are the kind of person that thinks people that work hard should be treated fairly then sign this petition. It is mainly aimed at tradesman of rated people but anyone supporting the idea can sign.

Tradesman are one of if not the most important asset to rated people, if rated people had no tradesman the company would collapse over night.

That’s why it is unfair that rated people can treat tradesman so unfairly with no accountability.

The rated people job leads are so expensive and a tradesman cant find himself spending over £400 in week without winning any work, but the worse thing is they don’t refund the tradesman the money they have spent even if they can never get through to the customer, pocketing more money for the company at the expense of tradesman.

They have just become a cash cow with no respect for trades or clients

I started this because I work very hard and built up and good reputation only to have it taken away by rated people for no reason at all.

If we get a big enough response from people we can force them to change because without tradesman or clients they can be no rated people as they would be none to rate and none posting jobs.

    Hi All
These are so many out there.Non-for profit members federations where the only ones that make a profit are those that set them up .Normally your main competitors/directors in these federations forming monopolies selling anything from insurance while taking your money to be part of them
There is one right now (non-for profit) With £10M cash in the bank
Bring back the days when you could trust those that would forward the leads in the first place .The trade has gone mad , Best of course is word of mouth but the homeowner want to see you are part those that sell the trade out everyday.
I will gladly sign any petition .

hi, I posted a job on 'rated' but couldn't cancel or update my job when I found someone else to do it. so i'm writing to any builders who enquire this sort of warning....ie. Hi ,sorry but the job has been taken now. I have been trying to cancel it on the website but they make it very hard to do so I'm afraid! If I were you I wouldn't pay them because their website seems to be deliberately designed to prevent jobs from being cancelled easily by posters.
    Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

I'm in the same position as everyone else. I've bought three jobs over the last couple of days and every one has either made excuses or just haven't answered. With the change of policy one has to wonder what is going on? Are they genuine from the start or are they a false means for RP to make money out of struggling workmen? Well you do have to ask the question. I've cancelled my annual membership and reverted quarterly payments. It really was a great way for building a client base but for the last 12 months the quality of leads has really plummeted with no redress for loss of monies.

For the first couple of years I felt RP were terrific! I had left BG and set up myself with nothing. I managed to build a client base and work was pretty constant with the odd time waster. I managed to get refunds where possible but always a struggle. I can see from their point of view that people were ripping them off by fraudulently claiming the lead was duff. However it seems everyone is being penalised. The leads are getting worse by the month as punters just don't care. I believe that a deposit should be paid and when the Engineer visits the money should be refunded. It would require a feedback system but we can't have it both ways. This policy coupled with an increase in poor leads has shown rated people in a very poor light. I've no Axe to grind with them as they have been good in the past, however they should really address these issues.

RUNNING BY MAFIA SPECIALIST IN COLLECTING MONEY TO FILL THEIR POCKET BY ATTRACTING DESPIRATING FELLOWS FOR WORK. BEHIND THEIR BRIGHT AND SHINY PAGE A MONSTER OPENING HIS MOUSE .

Out of 11 jobs purchased from RP, i have never had a job accepted. I have only been responded to properly once, that was the only one I have ever been able to quote. The rest have never answered their phones, majority text back saying they will call later or the job has been taken. This seems to be a game on rated people. Only recently i had 3 jobs refunded due to policy change, then for my last 2 refunds, they say that i have reached my monthly limit for refunds and that I should be more weary of the jobs that I purchase.
I will be taking rated people to small claims court if they refuse to refund the cost of all my leads, as I have the text messages as back up that the customers were all bogus/fake/setup/time wasters, proberbly even created by rated people themselves, I would not be surprised if that actually turned out to be the case.
I cannot believe that i have been a member for over a year and purchased 11 leads and not a single job out of it. And to
Make things worse, they dont have a number to call them on, or they dont make it easy to find.

Absolute con, signed up and the bill escalated out of control, i had to pay alot of money to close the account down. Biggest mistake of my life! The site should be closed down as its a scam!

Mybuilder is so much more fair, no membership, £2 + £3 leads, can quote straight away from the description to secure the job.
