Been looking for some new 1/4" router bit, is me,but I'm struggling to find a quailty set,at a sensible price, other than Trend, which some of are ****** made. Got some Jesada, plus Whiteside bits, lovely bits, but sadly no longer available here now, even Amana routers bits aren't available over here. Anybody use Axminster's range of bits 'Axcaliber' are they any good.
Have you had a look at Rutlands ? they do a very good range and never had a problem with them. I tend to use these as much as the Axminster ones They have a monster case http://www.rutlands.co.uk/sp+woodwo...rofile-70-pc-master-set-tct-1-4-tornado+tr310 They tend to have "dfs" type sales where they knock 15% - 50% off the prices. At the moment the 1/2 is £160 which for 66 pieces is quite good
They have single cutters and specialist sets. At the moment there is 15% and £5 for new customers so may be able to pick some good single ones.
Axminister tools used to sell CMT router bits ans saw blades which were good. Not used the xcalibur brand.
Used both the CMT orange bits and the xcalibur brand found them both better than some of the Trend ones which I find get covered in resin/muck. Out of interest Rockler have updated their site and now price in GBP and include UK deliver !!!
I like a lot of Rockler products, but you only allowed to buy about £20 before customs charges are added. Might look for a EU country stockist, as you can bring in an unlimited amount of most goods. Some of the latest Trend bits are poor.
I recently bought an axminster intumescent strip cutter...very well made and cut cleanly. Can't vouch for long term longevity yet though.
A lot of the Rutlands stuff seems to be Rockler but at the usual convert USD to GBP add 20% then UK profit etc. Always been surprised Screwfix, Axminster, Yandel etc. don't source some of the Rockler products as there would be a huge demand for them
