You do. The box give you a code and then you enter your details online. Name, address, card details etc. But, I've never been charged.
I got a Panasonic blueray DVD player. Found out later that it had WiFi as well. Just connect to your wifi router, using connect code, & away you go. All the extra channels are there. Nexflic, whatever, bbc you-tube etc. Its HD as well.
Chromecast in your TV, saved content on android tablet, and stream new stuff via Showbox or Kodi cast it all to your chromecast, done. I'm using an old android phone for this at the minute, SIM ais out & connect to house WiFi and what I have is a media player and media remote control all in one.
It's now not about just a TV. It's either a smart TV with streaming capabilities, or a TV that can connect streaming boxes like Roku TV, FireTV stick, Android boxes, etc. You don't need Roku if and only if you have a Roku software built-in smart TV. Just turn ON and watch the content.
