I had to branch off a 22mm CH flow & return.I thoght I would avoid joints under floorboards by using Speedfit for the first time. Got in line with Speedfit pipes using copper (Compression and end-feed.) Made what appears to be a simple connection copper to Speedfit but when tested the Speedfit connector leaks like a sieve. I think its due to the sideways pressure exerted by the pipe trying to get back to its coiled state. Can't overcome this so it looks like chucking away the Speedfit pipe and fittings and starting again in copper.
No, I downloaded the manual which seemed to indicate that you only needed the insert if connecting to compression fittings.
Always use a insert on plastic, & no insert on copper, just push it in fitting up to the stop. http://www.johnguest.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/diy-installation-manual-july-2012.pdf
You don't need any on the copper side but if you're using compression on the speedfit don't use the insert with the O rings.
I can't quite see what he's doing but I know from bitter experience not to use an O ring insert with compression on plastic pipe.
Must admit, i cant think of a time I've fitted speedfit pipe into a copper fitting, always copper into speedfit.
