    Hi
Hope this is not a daft question?
I want to drill six square holes in 15mm mdf
Could I say drill half inch holes with a drill bit then using a Mortice drill bit just the square part and tap it with a hammer to leave a square hole.

there's a "square " chisel by Trend which should

Could also just square it up with a conventional wood chisel

If you have a pillar drill for the mortice bit then yes, but you would be as well to clamp a strip of wood on as a straight edge and just run a row of mortice holes.
