I am about to tile my bathroom which has been skimmed with plaster (thistle multi finish) and left to dry for many weeks.

The walls are stud walls with plasterboard (and insulation). I have bought primer recommended on the packet of adhesive.

My question is can I use the primer for the walls that will be in the shower enclosure or should I use tanking slurry? Many thanks.

Plasterboard isn't the best to have near a bath and something to avoid completely for showers. In hindsight it would have been better to fix a cement board in the shower which would have saved the cost on skimming and primers/ sealers.

The best thing to buy is one of the tanking kits which contain a mat and sealers

As sospan said. The folks who make the blue rubber sealing strips (Classi-Seal iirc) make a pretty good kit that can be tiled over in a couple of hours.
