Using grey water for flushing the toilet

    Morning all,
First need to point out I'm not a plumber but someone keen to learn about all this stuff. Starting to think about our new bathroom suite ...

I've been reading about the use of grey water (waste from sink, shower etc) and using that to flush the toilet. Awesome idea saves water and money ... but I can't seem to find a lot of solutions on the market.
One option I've found is just install a sink on the toilet itself ... like the idea but my wife wouldn't really go for this.

Is there a way of just plumbing in the sink drain tube to the toilet water tank and let the tank overflow take care of the excess? Or should you really have a separate tank to drain to and feed the toilet tank? Unfortunately we are also restricted space wise in our bathroom.

Sorry if that comes across as dumb but if anyone can advise of products/ solutions, or even further reading, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance and happy plumbing everyone!

Rainwater harvesting, it's easier, can reduce water useage by around 70%, can use it for washing machine, toilets.

average toilet about 6-8L average flushes a day say 8 x7=56L a day
if you have 2 baths a week on average thats enough to keep the toilet in flushing water
now that about 400L a week you will save at a cost off around 80p
to save this 80p you need a say 500L tank and unless the tank is above the toilet tank height you need a pump and the electrics to go with it
how long would it take to get your money back at a saving off £42 a year
and if you need to use toilet blocks because you wife doesn't like the cloudy water costing perhaps £12 a year

All credit to you, Dan, for considering this, but you won't believe how scuzzy the water from your bath or basin will be, and the scum you'll be brushing off the sides of your toilet bowl on a very regular basis.

Stick to collecting rainwater - nice clean stuff. Until it goes all algae'd...

Grey water harvest is using rainwater that's collected in a reservoir dug into your garden.
This is then pumped to your toilets for flushing, the duct that passes into your house carrying the cable for the low level float switch operating a solenoid on the cold main must enter the duct Via a tundish.

Fitted a few on some code homes they work well

    Kind regards
