Varnishing without streaks?

    How the hell do you varnish without it leaving streaks? I have already ruined 1 oak door, don't fancy doing it again, how do you prevent this?

    What varnish are you using?

    I like water based. That's the milky stuff that dries out clear.
    When its on at the beginning it looks streaky but dries out super smooth.

    Lovely to work with, but I find you need to use a good quailty synthetic brush.

    Yes a good quality brush helps.

    And you can use it over shellac based sanding sealer also.

    Applying a watered down coat (10% of the solvent) first to seal the surface helps.
