Kools, how effective would your method be if all you did was batten out the wall and add plain plasterboard to this - no insulation filling in between the studwork? (You can probably guess where I'm going with this...)
And what was that, two days of work? For someone who's done it twice (and has no impact driver or screw gun) that's pretty good going!
One day in all. Had to wait for tanalised timber to get to the right moisture % but overall approx one day.
Hi All, Spoke to celotex yesterday and they recommended placing the insulated boards against the wall and then batten over the top then either plasterboard or plywood as a final cover, therefore leaving no gaps in the insulation, my next question is what would make a suitable fixing for attaching the batten and insulated boards to the wall? Rawplugs (image below) or just long screws?
So one of the most well known and respected insulation manufacturers told you..... To battern the wall!! Ha ha Dev!
Cough - they say to batten it over FULL SHEETS OF CELOTEX THAT WILL PROVIDE A PERFECT SOLID UNBROKEN INSULATING BARRIER. Ok, they didn't say that, but it's what they meant... If you were to follow their method - Celotex and then batten over (what a palaver) - you'd be completely NUTS to not simply insulating-board it and be done.
Yeah yeah Dev, they still said battening! Although i completely agree with you, their suggested method is madness... Much better to tape the gaps in the insulation boards and then overboard with plasterboard, the air gap is supposed to help insulating, but that would be at incredible expense financially, the amount of floor space it takes up and the time to do the job.
Yep, it's a daft method to batten over. Yes it'll hold the sheets in place, and yes it'll provide a good screwing point for the plasterboards, but what a completely unnecessary waste of space. And if you don't use foil-backed p'board or provide an impermeable vapour barrier of some sort, you can expect condensation in that battened area behind the p'boards... The actual solution is so bludy easy and obvious, I'm astonished I have to say it. Over and over again. It's almost as tho' they think I enjoy talking...
Sorry mate...gonna have to rein you in there!! Just dab. Dots are what you stick on the wall first, and set plumb/level so your render/boards are all nice and flat God, I bore myself sometimes! (Sorry Kools)
