    Hello,
I have bought the Southwold Hallway Coat Rack from Tesco, which is hung on two keyhole fittings. The smallest end of the keyhole is 4mm, so what type and size of screw would I need to hang the rack securely? The coat rack weighs 10 kg.
    Thanks

With the keyhole shaped bracket the small end is the size of screw you need - 4mm

4x45mm gold screw ,red wall plug, 6mm masonary drill.

  5. It will depend on what type of material you are fixing it to as to the length of the screw and type of fixing you use,a no 8 screw will be the size for the keyholes.

How much does it weigh with the coats hanging on?

Do bear in mind what your wall is constructed from too, lath and plaster, render and set, stud and plasterboard, drylined dot and dab, horsehair and cob , does make a difference to fitting of coat rail and how much weight the wall surface can take.

Generally, you would use a panhead screw for keyholes. Not countersunk head.

Thank you for the replies, firstly some clarification on points raised:
    • The wall is brick, adjoining a storage room that I have no access to (block of flats)
    • The weight of the coats to be hung is around 5kg
Given the above can anyone recommend screws to buy on the Screwfix website

    Thanks

The coat rack doesn't weigh 10Kg no matter what he said :):)

Thanks, but with the additional replies received I was just double checking; I have ordered a box of Goldscrew 4x45mm screws.

Well the above box should give you enough screws with around 198 screws spare for another job :p

Did you really not have 2 suitable screws at home you could have used instead of ordering a box full (realise not a lot of money so saying)

Just to add to the mix, I would say red plug, 5.5mm drill bit - tighter fixings

But 10kg without coats on 2 X 4.0x45 screws, I myself would go bigger

Think you will find the screws holding the keyhole plate and the back of the unit will only be about 13mm long . If anything will fail it will be these :D

Product weight decimal point in the wrong place ? usually products like that come with mounting screws and plugs. Why would you buy a box of screws for 2 needed ?

Of course it weighs 10kg. And panhead screws are best.
