Hi....newb question but what kind if screw is this and were can I find one? It measures at 1-1.2mm (not too sure, not got the equipment) by 6mm. I need a replacement soon and don't know where to look! Any help would be appreciated Again sorry for the idiocy of this post.
That's a small screw, for that size it's off a small electrical appliance or similar. 1) Is it a countersunk head 2) Does it have a machine thread?
It appears to be machined yes It is from a electrical REPLICA rifle and is very important for the operation of the system I can provide further images if you think it would help as I am completely unknowing in this topic
James, how long is this countersunk-head machine screw? That's all you need, man - the thickness of the shaft and the length. You reckon it's 6mm diameter? But you have nothing to measure it with? Do you have a drill set? Then drill a hole in something that'll drill a clean, neat, accurate hole - like plastic - using a 6mm drill bit. See if that screw fits in easily but not loosely. If it's M6 (metric 6mm) it should fit cleanly but not flop about too much. Then pay a visit to your favourite retailer; http://www.screwfix.com/p/socket-countersunk-screws-a2-stainless-steel-m6-x-25mm-pack-of-50/37791 Scroll down and see other lengths. (Comes in various lengths...)
I have a ruler it appeared to be 6mm length with a 1mm diameter. It's very small but very important. The issue I have is that the thread has worn down to the point that it is just a tiny bit too think in diameter to fit the thread that it is supposed to be in :/
Is there any chance of contacting the manufactures? The screw has a fine thread (pitch) and it is possible that you may ruin the tapped thread using a wrong screw.
why not take the screw to a screw shop and ask them if they have a screw that is the same as your screw, but a new screw !!!!!this may work.......
Blimey, James - I'd assumed your first post had a measuring typo! Hmmm, surely you have a choice of (a) getting an engineer to measure it so's you know exactly what you want, or (b) contact the manufacturer of the leccy replica rifle (what the hell is that, anyways?) The only screws I know of approaching that size are used in clocks, watches and some electronic devices such as harddrives, and other PC components as Mr ha says. But, most of these other screws will be pan-head. And, anyways, what are the chances of them being identical? Pretty much zero.
I'll have you know that I have screws that size from dismantled laptops and bits. I didn't say laptop screws were 'a size'. I said they can be around that size. Wake up. Mr. HandyAndy - Really
