    Hi guys,

I have installed wood cladding on my dormer window and now want to treat it.

It is planed tantalised timber and I want grey colour.

Can anyone advise me on beat way to treat and stain my cladding.

I wanted ducks back silver copse by Cuprinol but it's for rough sawn timber only

You will have to let the tanalized timber weather for maybe up to 6 months prior to staining otherwise the stain/paint will not adhere leading to early failure.

    Thanks

    I like the 905 patina

Isn't stocked near me though so would need to order.

That's not good, I didn't fancy waiting and having spruce coloured timber on my house

    Is Cuprinol garden shades rubbish?

I like the urban slate and it's easy to get

Just overboard it with uPVC cladding, range of colours available, job done.

I don't like upvc, otherwise I would have bought that instead of timber.

    It's stupidly priced also

Osmo is better in opinion,it's oil based, as Cuprinol is water based.

Buy it from a trade outlet!

Cheapest I could find for grey upvc was £20 A strip (most places were £27+)

With corner trim it was going to be around £700 for my dormer.

22mm cladding was a fraction of the price

Also I much prefer wood. Like most things original is better

Would have gone for Western Red Cedar Cladding, has better durability & longer lifespan than spruce.

Also composite timber cladding is becoming popular, it's not plastic, has a lifespan of 50 years or so.

Agreed but I if looked after I should get many years out of it.

It again was easier to get and half the price.

Although better I don't think cedar is twice as good.
