Evening folks, thanks for looking. I've got a quick query regarding the plans I've got for my garage. We're going down the wooden style, steel frame on breezeblocks. I'm stumped as to a roof though, a builder friend has suggested corrugated plastic, but that won't be watertight. What suggestions do you all have? I'll attach what it'll look like. I'm not a builder so can't figure this roof out!
What garage being used for, & what size is garage & what is exsisting roof. I would look at EDPM roofing.
Garage will be for car storage/project work with workspace. No existing garage, pictures are to show what I'm going for. Will be approx 7m x 3m.
EPDM I would say,but GRP roofing is nice, more expensive though, but should easily last 30 years or so, available in many colours. I have grp roofing on my workshop, been there just over six years, still good as the day it was laid. Trouble with some roofing sheet like corrugated plastic, metal, onduline, etc you can getting condensation forming on the underside in the winter, which ain't no good in a workshop.
Much appreciated @KIAB, I'm not up to speed with this kind of thing. Are these kind of roofs ok for a slight drop? I'm always paranoid about standing water.
Just use firrings to give a fall on the flat roof, you can get then in different lengths like 47mm x 50mm to nothing 3.6m length. As to condensation problem, some peeps are using warm roof construction, usually used on a habitable room on their workshops, home offices nowadays to eliminate the problem.
But,a cold roof is a cheaper option, with ventilation air space & rigid insulation between the joists it will suffice for most home workshops.
There were some good products I saw a the roofing show this year. One is the Catnic SSR2 standing seam roof and cladding. There is also another popular product called Reinforced Single-ply PVC roof system, they use special heat guns to seam the joints.
That SSR2 can used vertical or as a roof with minimun 5ยบ pitch. Seen a few places with reinforced Single-ply PVC roof system or similar, which has then been grass over or seeded with meadow flowers. http://www.icopal.co.uk/Products/Si...y-roofing/monarplan-products/monarplan-g.aspx
When it comes to choosing a roof it is always better if you choose one that is durable and weather resistant.Metal roofs are much more stronger and durable than asphalt shingles.Metal roofs looks like cedar shakes and slate tiles so it is easy to make it match with the main roof's style and color also providing the protection that your garage may require.Choosing the right roof can also increase the curb appeal of your house to a large degree. Here is a blog that I read from Royal York Roofing a roofing installation specialist that mentions the best roofing materials for homes for all four seasons.I hope that you find it interesting.
